Reminder: West Ocean Boulevard Repaving Begins
Westbound lanes to close tonight through Sunday, January 7-9
January 4, 2011
Motorists who use West Ocean Boulevard to travel from downtown Long Beach toward San Pedro or Terminal Island this weekend will be directed to an alternate route as crews complete resurfacing work.
Westbound lanes will be closed beginning 8 p.m. today, January 7, through 8 p.m. Sunday, January 9. Traffic from downtown Long Beach to San Pedro and Terminal Island will be rerouted north along Shoreline Drive.
The resurfacing project is taking place on Ocean Boulevard just west of the World Trade Center and on the bridge over the Los Angeles River.
There will be detour signs and traffic controls for the alternate routes. Eastbound lanes were resurfaced last month. Motorists may encounter some traffic delays throughout the weekend.
In addition, road crews will be making repairs to the Shoemaker Bridge, which spans the Los Angeles River, connecting downtown Long Beach to the 710 Freeway. On Saturday, January 8, the southbound Shoemaker Bridge will be closed from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. The northbound Shoemaker will be reduced from one to two lanes intermittently for the next two weeks as crews work to install a new heavy-duty guard rail on the bridge.
Meanwhile, additional West Ocean Boulevard closures are planned for later this month to permit striping of the roadway. On Saturday, January 22, the eastbound lanes of West Ocean are scheduled to be closed 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Sunday, January 23, the westbound lanes are to be closed for striping.
