Walter Awarded Top Business Honors
March 30, 2006
Long Beach Harbor Commissioner Mike Walter has been named a 2005 Businessman of the Year by President Bush's Business Advisory Council.
Dr. Walter was given the award for his many contributions to California’s business and philanthropic community, said Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, R-Huntington Beach, who announced the award this week.
Dr. Walter is a “tremendous asset” to California businesses, Rohrabacher said.
Dr. Walter, who was appointed to the Harbor Commission in July 2005, joined the board after a distinguished career in business and education. He serves as Assistant to the President for Community Relations at California State University Long Beach and is the former Dean of its College of Business Administration. In business, he held senior executive positions with three multibillion, multinational companies, Levi Strauss, Du Pont and Rockwell International.
Dr. Walter also is well known for his philanthropy. He and his wife Arline donated $2.1 million to CSULB’s faculty development and research program, and to its Department of Athletics. The university honored the Walters by naming its iconic sports complex the “Mike and Arline Walter Pyramid.”
