Port Televises Harbor Commission Meetings
Web, cable broadcasts will improve public access
August 18, 2007
For the first time, the Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners is broadcasting its meetings live via the web, with rebroadcasts on cable television.
Beginning with the 9 a.m. August 13, Commission meeting, the Port will air the meetings live on the web, at www.polb.com. The meetings will be available shortly afterward on the web for repeat viewing anytime. In addition, the meetings will be rebroadcast on Long Beach Television 8, and repeated throughout the week.
"This is a major step forward for improved public access at the Port of Long Beach," said Harbor Commission President Mario Cordero. "We want more people to know what’s happening here at the Port, particularly with our key environmental initiatives, the Green Port Policy and Clean Air Action Plan."
The Harbor Commission’s regular meetings are on Mondays at 1 p.m. The August 13 meeting, however, will begin at 9 a.m. In addition to the web broadcasts, the meetings will be rebroadcast on Long Beach Channel 8 on Mondays at 8 p.m., Wednesdays at 9:30 p.m. and Thursdays at 4 p.m.
"We’ve made major strides in the last few years to become a more active community partner and a more transparent organization that welcomes public participation," Cordero said. "The televised meetings are an important part of that."
