Applications for Port Sponsorships Open Sept. 1-30
Port continues its investments in community groups
August 24, 2016
The Port of Long Beach will accept applications for its community sponsorship program during the month of September.
The Harbor Department provides sponsorship funds to socially responsible local groups for community events and activities that also help to inform residents about the Port while making Long Beach a better place to live and work.
Sponsorship funding requests will be accepted from Thursday, Sept. 1, through Friday, Sept. 30, 2016. The next call for applications will be in March.
Applicants are advised to plan ahead for their events — after the application period closes, it will take about 45 days before recommendations will be sent to the Board of Harbor Commissioners for a decision. It is expected funding will be announced in mid-November. There is no restriction on organizations that have received past awards. Applicants are judged on how they can help the Port inform the community of the many ways the Port of Long Beach is an integral part of Long Beach.
In May, Harbor Commissioners awarded 83 sponsorships totaling $359,795 to community organizations representing the arts, environment, social justice and historic preservation. During the current fiscal year ending Sept. 30, the Port gave $737,995 to community groups. A list of previous sponsorship recipients can be found here.
