Community Offered Exclusive Chance to Photograph Port
Register July 6 for Port’s popular PHOTO program
June 30, 2016
For the fourth year in a row, "Port of Long Beach PHOTO" will welcome amateurs and professionals to a three-part photography learning experience featuring a workshop and harbor tour, culminating with a juried gallery exhibition at the Museum of Latin American Art.
The free program, a partnership between the Port and the Arts Council for Long Beach, begins Saturday, July 23, with a workshop taught by Port photographers, followed by a twilight shoot Saturday, Aug. 6, aboard a cruise through the Port. The program concludes with a gallery reception and exhibition in conjunction with Long Beach Arts Month in October, which is an annual celebration of local arts and culture.
Photos from every participant will be showcased beginning with a Saturday, Oct. 1, reception in The Port to Learning, Port of Long Beach Education Gallery at the Museum of Latin American Art. The gallery is a partnership between the Port and MOLAA that hosts exhibits featuring art produced by students and the local community.
Due to exceptionally high demand, participants will be selected through a lottery system and only first-time participants will be eligible. Entry into the lottery will open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, at www.polb.com/photoworkshop.
A digital SLR or interchangeable-lens camera is mandatory to participate and participants must be available to attend the workshop, tour and reception.
