Port Offering Nearly $3 Million in Community Grants
Workshops Scheduled for Health and School Applicants
March 19, 2013
About $2.6 million in grant funding is now available through the Community Mitigation Grant Programs, which are designed to offset the environmental impact of the Port in the communities nearest the Port and its trade corridors. Grant funding for this round comes from Port projects such as the Middle Harbor Redevelopment and the Gerald Desmond Bridge Replacement project.
Two workshops are scheduled for each grant category:

Health care grants will be awarded to projects that detect or diagnose respiratory or cardiopulmonary problems. They may involve screening and diagnosis, health monitoring, educational programs that address ways to reduce exposure to emissions, and outreach to identify and help those at particular risk of pollution-related health conditions.
Projects already funded through Port grants include a mobile clinic for St. Mary Medical Center, a cardiopulmonary lab at Long Beach Comprehensive Medical Center, filter replacements throughout Long Beach schools and window replacements at Long Beach community centers.Click here
