The Port of Long Beach needs volunteers for the 28th Annual California Coastal Cleanup Day on Saturday, September 15 at the beach next to Belmont Plaza Pool. The Port is sponsoring the event in partnership with the El Dorado Nature Center, and will be handing out beach buckets to volunteers.
The event will take place from 9 a.m. to noon. Belmont Plaza Pool is at 4000 E. Olympic Plaza, Long Beach, 90803.
Volunteers will receive bags, gloves, data cards and pencils, but should be prepared for the sunny weather by bringing hats, drinking water, comfortable shoes and lots of sunscreen.
California Coastal Cleanup Day is the state’s largest annual volunteer event. In 2011, more than 71,794 volunteers removed more than 1.3 million pounds of trash and recyclables from local beaches, lakes, and waterways statewide. Beach cleanups are important to marine wildlife and the local community. This event is a great way for families, students, service groups, and the community to get together and make a difference in the marine habitat and preserve the beauty of California’s beaches.
