May 3, 2017: Two workshops to assist applicants with their submissions for the Port of Long Beach's Community Grants Program will be held this month. The first workshop, on the Community Health Program, will be Wednesday, May 10, at 2 p.m.; the second, on the Air Filtration Program, will be Thursday, May 25, at 2 p.m. Both workshops will be held in the first-floor Board Room at the Port's Interim Administrative Offices, 4801 Airport Plaza Drive, Long Beach, 90815.

News ImageNew Date Set for Port's Environmental Grants Workshops
April 4, 2017: The Port of Long Beach has rescheduled workshops for a new grant program this year that will foster new health programs for asthma, and empower schools, day-care centers and other facilities to purchase air filters. Two workshops will be held, both on Wednesday, April 19, at the Port of Long Beach Interim Administrative Offices, 4801 Airport Plaza Drive.

March 19, 2013: About $2.6 million in grant funding is now available through the Community Mitigation Grant Programs, which are designed to offset the environmental impact of the Port in the communities nearest the Port and its trade corridors. Grant funding for this round comes from Port projects such as the Middle Harbor Redevelopment and the Gerald Desmond Bridge Replacement project.

Port Funds Tree Planting Project
February 21, 2013: A Port of Long Beach funded tree-planting initiative to cut greenhouse gases kicked off Feb. 23, at Silverado Park. "I Dig Long Beach – 6,000 Trees by 2020" began with the planting of 50 trees in the park and adjacent John Muir Elementary School. Watch video from the event.

February 11, 2013: The Port of Long Beach has awarded more than $600,000 to the neighborhood Long Beach Comprehensive Health Center (LBCHC) to establish the clinic's new Heart Station cardiopulmonary lab. The lab will benefit patients from underserved Long Beach communities and is scheduled to open the first week of March.

September 17, 2012: The Long Beach Alliance for Children with Asthma received a $489,200 Port grant to expand its successful efforts to lessen the impact of asthma on children in the community. By going into family homes and giving them the "knowledge and tools" to manage the asthma of the children, LBACA is training the community to better cope with and control the chronic disease.

August 22, 2012: Breathe California of Los Angeles County has received a grant of $355,874 from the Port's health grant fund to bring its "O24U" program to children in Long Beach after-school groups. The program teaches children in air pollution-impacted areas about air pollution and its effect on health. Educators offer advice for asthma management.

April 18, 2011: The Port of Long Beach on Monday, April 18 announced the award of $5 million in grants to fund 10 projects to improve the lung and heart health of people who live closest to the Port.
