Audience at the 2018 State of the PortThe Port of Long Beach roared back from unprecedented challenges to notch its busiest year ever in 2017, moving 7.54 million twenty-foot equivalent units, an increase of more than 11 percent, Executive Director Mario Cordero announced at the annual State of the Port address on Jan. 24.

  • Applications are now open for the Summer High School Internship Program at the Port of Long Beach, as well as the Port's college scholarships. Deadline to apply for both programs is March 1. Applications, eligibility information and detailed instructions for both programs are available on the Port's education portal website, academy.polb.com.
  • The Port of Long Beach and the Panama Canal Authority have extended an existing agreement to promote trade between Latin America and the U.S. that benefits both ports. Under the Memorandum of Understanding, the two ports will continue to collaborate on activities that increase economic growth, jobs and revenue and share technical expertise in areas such as engineering, environmental protection and the reduction of greenhouse gases. First signed in 2010, the agreement now extends through December 2022.
  • Port of Long Beach tenants will save money on their water bills due to a rate reduction recently established for all City of Long Beach water customers. The new rates lower the cost of drinking water 4.2 percent and sewer rates 10.4 percent. The reduction does not apply to water users covered by the Port tariff, such as ships at berth supplied with potable water.
