In Other News...

  • The Port of Long Beach has hired Parsons Brinkerhoff to conduct a comprehensive land-use study of the Port. Under the 18-month contract capped at $2.3 million, the consultant will evaluate future land-use strategies based on the Port’s development and operational priorities and expected cargo volumes.
  • The Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners has endorsed two federal bills that would create new funding sources for national freight infrastructure. HR 935 sponsored by Rep. Janice Hahn would establish the National Freight Network Trust Fund outside the Highway Trust Fund. HR 1308 sponsored by Rep. Alan Lowenthal would establish the Freight Transportation Infrastructure Trust Fund and the National Multimodal Freight Funding Formula Program for States. Both bills are new versions of legislation introduced in the previous session and endorsed by the Port.
