  • Progress continues on the Gerald Desmond Bridge Replacement Project, with more than a third of the new span’s 351 piles completed. The $1.3 billion project is due to be finished in late 2017 to mid-2018. 
  • The Port of Long Beach will continue its tradition of sponsoring the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach. The 2015 IndyCar Series race takes place April 17-19. The annual event draws more than 175,000 visitors to the city and watched by millions of viewers in 144 countries. The Port Prius is the official pace car for all seven races. Other promotional opportunities that come with the Port’s $180,000 sponsorship include prominent signage at key locations along the track, a Port booth on the main concourse leading to the event, and two pit row hospitality suites overlooking the action.
  • Applications are open for the 2015 Port of Long Beach Summer Internship Program. Sophomores, juniors and seniors attending high school in the Long Beach Unified School District service area are eligible to apply for the eight-week program. The deadline to apply is March 4.
