In its ongoing efforts to provide congestion relief to customers and stakeholders, the Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners has directed Port of Long Beach staff to develop plans for purchasing and providing thousands of truck chassis for congestion relief during peak periods.

  • The Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners has voted to seek approval from the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) to form a discussion group with industry stakeholders to address congestion issues in the San Pedro Bay Ports.
  • The Port of Long Beach has renewed annual service contracts with its overseas representatives for business development in Australia, Europe, Japan, South Korea and Greater China. The Port’s five overseas representatives are Strang International Pty. Ltd., Lutz Ehrhardt, Kazuhiko Futagawa, Sebang Express Co. Ltd., and United Transportation (HK) Ltd.  
  • PierPass Inc. has named John Cushing, a veteran transportation industry leader, as its new president. Cushing, who founded eModal in 1999, replaces Bruce Wargo as president. Wargo remains CEO and has replaced Jon Hemingway, chairman of Carrix Inc., as PierPass board chairman. 
  • The Containerization & Intermodal Institute (CII) has honored Robert Curry Sr., CEO and Director of California Cartage Co. with its 2014 Connie Award. Curry was recognized Sept. 23 during the annual meeting of the Intermodal Association of North America. CII also recognized Dr. Geraldine Knatz, former Executive Director of the Port of Los Angeles and former Managing Director of Development at the Port of Long Beach, with its Lifetime Achievement Award. Knatz, a Long Beach resident whose career at the two ports spanned more than 35 years, also served as President of the International Association of Ports and Harbors.
